Summer Reading Event

Our ‘Summer Reading Event’ begins on Monday. We have an exciting week of reading and book activities planned for all the classes.

All parents and carers have been invited to come into school over the next two weeks to read with or to the children. This can be your own child and a couple of friends or a small group, or if you are really brave the whole class. We have a selection of suitable short stories and poems to choose from and hope that you will join us in showing that it is ‘Cool to Read’.

All classes will be visiting the local library during the week.

All children will also be assigned a Reading Buddy, who will support them in reading.

We have a visit from Dave Harmer a Performance Poet on Friday 26th June and visits from prominent members of the community including the Mayor and Mick Clapham during the week.

Year 4 Tennis

Four year 4 pupils took part in a local school tennis tournament on Tuesday this week at Barnsley Tennis Club. The team played well and enjoyed the competition. Thank you, to parents who supported by taking the children to the tournament.

Year 6 Cricket

The year 6 cricket team won the local school tournament in the sports hall at Worsbrough Cricket Club on Wednesday. They are now through to the final next week.

Water Bottles

It has been brought to my attention that some parents and carers are putting fizzy drinks and juice in the children’s water bottles. Can I remind you that these drinks are not allowed under our Healthy Food Policy? Please put only water in water bottles. Unrestricted access to sugary drinks is unhealthy and bad for the children’s teeth.

Head Lice

Could we once again ask parents to keep a regular check on their child’s hair for head lice? Unfortunately, they are becoming quite common again particularly during the summer months.

School Meal Payments

Mrs. Parkinson has asked me to remind parents that all outstanding payments for school dinners need to be paid urgently, as we are nearing the end of term.  It is important that all dinners monies are paid into the cash machines before the end of the week in which they are taken, in order to avoid the build up of debts.  Thanking you all in anticipation.

Day trip to Bridlington

There are still a few tickets left on the coach to Bridlington at a cost of £6.00 per seat.  All children must have their own seat and be accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 18.  The trip is on the

17th August and will leave the Netto car park at 8.30am, setting off back from Bridlington at 5.00pm.  Please see either Mrs Loy or Mrs Wilson in the school office.
