The Edmunds Primary School Back
Newsletter
24.04.09
Welcome back to the start of the summer term. We hope that everyone has had a good break. We have had a good week in school, the children appear happy to be back and very keen to get involved in this term’s learning activities.
You will receive a curriculum statement next week, which will outline the learning objectives and curriculum targets for this term.
Holidays in During the School Term
We strongly discourage families from taking holidays in the school term. The missed time from school leaves gaps in the children’s learning and for many makes it difficult for them to catch up.
We have a policy for granting leave of absence in school time. This is available on the school website www.theedmundsprimaryschool.org.uk under the section Prospectus.
Parent/Carer Partnership
Over the past two terms we have begun to see evidence of a significant improvement in the attitudes and behaviour of the vast majority of our pupils. We believe that an important contributing factor in this is the support that you have given to staff in school. Pupils have become more aware that staff, parents and carers are working together to ensure that there are high standards of behaviour and high expectations of achievement and attainment in school. This partnership is making a real impact on the engagement and success of the pupils.
Thank you.
School Uniform
School uniform is compulsory in school and does contribute towards standards of discipline and behaviour. It also creates a feeling of identity and belonging amongst pupils. Nearly every child in school is wearing the correct uniform however one or two consistently do not follow the appropriate dress code.
Please note that the agreed school uniform is:
Red or White Polo Shirt
Red Sweat Shirt/ Cardigan
Grey or Black Trousers/Skirt/Shorts
Red and White Checked Dress
Flat Black Shoes – Trainers will only be acceptable if they are completely black, without flashing lights or decorations and must be different shoes to those shoes being worn for P.E.
PE Kit
Please send this on Monday and take it home on Friday. We have 2 hours of PE each week which means that some form of physical activity takes place each day. Appropriate footwear must be available, trainers or plimsolls.
Jewellery
Jewellery should not be worn in school. Watches and small stud earrings will be permitted, provide they are removed according to Health and Safety guidance before PE lessons.
May Day
School will be closed on Monday May 4th for the May Day Holiday.
Jimmy Rae Memorial Football
The Dale Park Community Group are having their annual Jimmy Rae Memorial Football Tournament this Sunday in the Dale Park all day. There will be football matches, face painting, a bar–b-que and much more.
